The Purdue men’s basketball team has won the conference title in its second year under coach Tom Crean and the Hoosiers are set to take on Wisconsin on Saturday.
The Boilermakers are 1-1 since they were ranked No. 8 and are now 5-0 since they went into the conference tournament as No. 5.
The win was Purdue’s fourth straight and their fifth in the last seven seasons.
The Hoosier players will be playing in a game for the first time since Nov. 20, the final game of the season, because of NCAA rules requiring all teams to play one more game in the regular season.
It’s the first win since Nov., when the Boilerbacks were knocked out of the Big East tournament by Xavier in the first round of the tournament.
The win was the Hoosters second straight win after they were eliminated by Crean’s men’s team in the Big 12 tournament in Omaha, Neb., on March 28.
The Big Ten championship game has been played twice before, most recently in 2009 when the Indiana Pacers won it in overtime.
The Hoosiest team won its fifth straight title in 2015.
The game is slated to start at 9 p.m.
(ET) and will be broadcast by ESPN.
The top two seeds in the conference will face off in the championship game.
The winner of that game will play for a spot in the Sweet 16, the tournament championship game for each conference.
The teams with the best records in their respective conferences will advance to the championship round, with the top two teams in the tournament playing for a place in the Final Four.
