Eastern Kentucky basketball fans cheered for a comeback against Vanderbilt on Sunday night after falling behind by a final 12 points.
But the Wildcats didn’t have a shot to win the game, which would have put them in the Sweet 16.
Instead, the Cats’ star duo of Jabari Parker and Josh Jackson combined for 37 points and 14 rebounds to help the team defeat the Commodores 86-80.
“This game wasn’t a one-point game,” said Parker.
“I think the guys have been able to get better.
We are just focused on this.
The guys have stepped up to the plate and shown they can be a dominant team.”
Jackson added: “I feel like we can do better.
If we don’t make plays in the paint, we will get beat.
We have to continue to find our ways.”
Kentucky was led by sophomore guard Jalen Brunson who scored 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Cats.
Jackson added 13 points, seven assists and seven rebounds.
Vanderbilt shot 40.5 percent from the field and had 20 turnovers.
The Wildcats are 0-3 against Vanderbilt in the series.
