KYIV — Kentucky basketball guard Morgan Collins has been arrested and charged with shoplifting $1 million worth of shoes, authorities announced Monday.
Collins was arrested and booked into the Kenton County Jail on Monday on suspicion of one count of grand theft, police said.
Collins had a shoe deal signed with Nike worth $1.1 million, which is believed to have gone through the Kentucky Athletic Department in 2014, police told WKYT.
Police say Collins was allegedly taking the shoes and attempting to resell them.
The Nike deal is believed not to have been completed.
Police say they found a box of shoes in Collins’ home.
He was released on $50,000 bond.
Collins will appear in court again next month.
The Kentucky Athletic Association did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
A spokesman for the Kentucky Sports Commission told The Associated Press that the athletic department is cooperating with the investigation and would provide additional information when it becomes available.
