WASHINGTON — The Virginia Tech women’s volleyball team was unable to secure a victory over Virginia Tech on Friday night, falling to the Terps 83-76 in the NCAA Tournament.
The Terps (20-5, 11-2 Big East) had a 14-0 lead going into the second half before trailing by 14 with 3:47 left in the game.
Virginia Tech responded with six unanswered points from Ashley Williams to take a 25-21 lead.
But the Terriers (21-7, 13-4) answered with back-to-back baskets by Alyssa Covington, Lauren Renn, and a 3-pointer from Rachel Brown.
The game finished with 5:19 remaining and Virginia Tech led 29-21.
The women’s team will play No. 2 seed Virginia Tech next Saturday in the ACC Tournament.
Virginia was not able to score a basket against Virginia Tech.
Virginia won a game for the second time this season against Virginia Commonwealth in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday.
